Seventeen students from elementary and high school made a visit to the People with Determination, Rashid Center and witnessed how the people with challenges were empowered.

Ms. Rita Karduo, education coordinator, toured the TPS group at  the Rashid center on October 7, 2018. Each student had their own story to tell about these learning experiences, which they believe gave positive realisations about life.

According to Isabella Planta, a high school student, her experience changed her mindset. They were greeted with warm welcome. “We took a short stop at the gym where the children were eating together. Their faces lit up upon seeing us and that really made me feel happy. She recalled.  We talked to some of them, had a chat, and gave them some supplies and hand-made origami,” she narrated.

“I felt shocked that many simple daily tasks, though difficult for them, they are doing things in thei own unique way,” Grade 8 student Etihan Rabino said.

“The trip made me realize that I should be thankful for the things I have. They may have life’s challenges but they showed us that they can conquer, and if they can, we also can,” Grade 6 student Maureen Vicente said. “We all have our own talents specially what we’re good at. To be honest, I can’t paint well, but they can,” she added.

Grade 6 student Carl Liam Dianco also shared his perspective that the People of Determination are not that different.

He said that they just have differences that hinder them from doing things that most of us can do. “I would like to help by donating school supplies to help them in school works,” he mentioned.

Grade 10 student Carl Tobias shared, “I realized that they are happy because they don’t think of themselves as different. I just realized how blessed I am and my family.”

Most of the students claimed that joining the trip helped them to be more understanding and to be a better role model.
