“Kids are like adults now. Kids are better than us. Give them the floor.”

This was the message of Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Emilia Banlaygas, when she conducted a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training for teachers on January 15 at The Philippine School.

With the theme of 21st Century Teaching, Banlaygas advised the teachers to expose the students to real world and independent learning.

“Children are different now.  In Japan, small kids ride the train alone,” she exemplified. “The students of the 21st century are more critical and analytical. In teaching, present your content   with problem-solving,” she added.

The speaker shared her three decades of wisdom to TPSian educators and related her opinion on where are the best schools in the world. “All the things that I am going to deliver today are not from experts, but from my own experience. I don’t teach things that I don’t know. I had been to Finland and I noticed that teachers there don’t teach what they are not expert at,” she shared.

She encouraged the teachers to work collaboratively, and monitor the individual skills of the students. This is for the students  to have every academic advantage, necessary to excel as productive members of the community.
