TPSians Lukas Manlangit and Beaux Consunji took part in the Dubai Police One Day Officer initiative by the Dubai Police held at the Dubai Police Headquarters on April 26, 2018.
The students were able to meet the Dubai Chief of Police – Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri. They visited the Dubai Police Museum, and also the Mounted Police Department, where they rode police horses around the vicinity.
“I particularly enjoyed the time when we were in the operations room,” said Consunji. “We could see all the police officers busy pounding away at their keyboards, and answering the waves of calls at astonishing speeds,” she narrated.
Lukas Manlangit recalled that the most memorable part for him was the trip to the Dubai Police Museum, where they got to see the foundations and the rich past of the Dubai Police.
The Museum Supervisor Lieutenant-Colonel Maryam Saeed Al Shamsi showed the students around and told them about the history of the Dubai Police.
Captain Dhahi Salem Ali Almheiri, an equestrian expert, believes that despite the increased use of cars, horses are still useful to the police in surveying important events, patrolling areas where its difficult for cars to enter, and also in participating in the equestrian sport.
By providing this opportunity to non-Arab students, they wanted to show that whether you are a local or an expat, you can enjoy the same privileges.
Consunji said, “I’m truly grateful to the Dubai Police for giving us this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is not only packed with fun-filled activities, but also served as a wonderful learning experience. This is where we got to learn the inner clockworks of the Dubai Police while meeting great people along the way.”
